This is yet another case of how people try to sanitize the wrong that was done to African people. So carefully worded, one may read it as though this child was afforded a better life by some benevolent souls when the truth is a little boy — barely older than a toddler — was taken from his homeland, sold as property and placed in the hands of White men who passed him from one to another as a gift.
