A friend of mine, a mentor, the great novelist, Marita Golden, said when she was about 18, most Black people still was going with "Negro." Then Dr. King got killed and that changed everything. They were "Black." Everyone. That is why I have always accepted "Black." That is our personal naming. That is our ethnicity.
