A Tale of Two Lame Political Parties

In 1988, I became, just for a minute, a Democrat. I wanted to vote for the Rev. Jesse Jackson in the Democratic primary. I walked into my precinct voting location, told them my name (I was not asked for an ID), signed on the dotted line next to my name, and vote for Jackson. Not long afterwards, I switched back to independent. I have remained independent ever since.
I have voted Democrat on occasion in various elections, and also for Green Party candidates. I have voted for Democratic-Socialists, and I have written in the name of candidates. One year I wrote in Marcus Garvey for President. Due to the fact that where I have lived (and voted) most of the last 30–40 years has been in a Blue-Blue state, my vote for President means nothing. However, my vote in down ballot races and on referendums has had meaning. I also voted in Michigan a few times when I lived there once I totally transferred my residency from Maryland and no longer owned property.
Yet, here I am again, in Maryland and the same unholy, flawed, and useless electoral system exists. Two parties control the political economy almost completely despite our daily complaints. In Maryland, a Democrat will win the state’s electoral votes…
