According to Bill Ayers and his partner/wife Bernadine Dohrn, affirmative action in America is whiteness (or for white people). Dohrn and Ayers, long time activists for revolutionary change in America, and retired academics now, should know. The work of studying and challenging inequality in America, based on class, race and/or both is their life’s work.

Dohrn and Ayers are dismissive of Whites complaining about affirmative action programs for African Americans. They find it absurd considering those programs never changed much of anything. The affirmative action programs from the 1960s that some Whites do not like and sued to destroy never did much for African Americans. The existing racial caste system of white privilege and advantage in every aspect of American life dominates life here.

Affirmative action is generally defined as “government-mandated, government-approved, and voluntary private programs granting special consideration to groups considered or classified as historically excluded, specifically racial minorities and women…” (Wikipedia).
