SATIRE
American Dystopia (Serial — Part 1)
A Post-Grifter Speculation
(Barack Obama, Dick Durbin, Rahm Emanuel, and a Black man named Nelson are in Buddy Guy’s, a Chicago blues club.
A bottle of whiskey is on the table. Shot glasses are full. Glasses of beer are also on the table, and one glass of wine in front of Durbin. A blues band is on stage playing music. The blues. The crowd is festive, finger popping to the beats).
Durbin: Barack, I am so glad I came here with you. I didn’t want to come at first, but like you always say, nothing like the blues to soothe a person’s broken soul.
Obama: Wait a second, Dick. Who is this guy?
(Obama points to Black guy, Nelson).
Durbin: That’s Nelson.
Obama: Nelson? I mean who is he. You called me up in a panic. You get me out of my man cave. I come over, and you have some guy with you I have never seen before.
Durbin: He’s my driver. And he also cooks pretty good. So he’s a keeper.
Rahm: Look, lets stop wasting time. This joint has great food. I say lets order and fuck all of this cloak and dagger shit. Nelson is cool. You should see his vinyl record collection. He’s got every Led Zeppelin album. And, they are in tip top shape.
