The new Pope is Black. Creole, they say, but Creole is Black. Back in the day, when the South began passing Black Codes to impose a racial caste system on society in the South in every aspect of life, it was voted that Creoles were on the Black side of the law. So, the Pope is Black. Welcome to the world we all live in, Leo.

My passport is current. I have friends abroad. My head hurts. Why am I not trying to leave? They tell me to come. I will try. Seriously, I will try. How did it reach this point?

I am an American. I was born here. I was raised in a free society. An open society. That society is vanishing. It is not free or open anymore at least not how it was when I grew up. That is disappointing. I cannot lie. I did not ever think I would consider leaving the country where I was born. But, here I am.

Ras Baraka, the Mayor of Newark, N.J., was illegally arrested by ICE this week. I have known Ras for decades through his daddy, the poet, Amiri Baraka. I know Ras personally. It is an atrocity that he was arrested. He did not break the law. But this regime is a criminal enterprise. This is…
