Andrew Brown, Jr. Videotape Shooting
Release The Video, in Full, And Lets Live With the Facts
A judge in North Carolina just denied the media access to the videotape of the shooting of Andrew Brown, Jr. The family can see it but not the world.
The city government has already declared a state of emergency.
Brown was shot to death last week by a police officer. The video should be released in full without redaction and everyone involved should know that. Even if it exonerates the police officer, it must be released.
I am not drawing any conclusions about the video or the incident. Put it out and let the incident have a public airing.
I have already heard enough rumor and loose chatter and read racist posts about Mr. Brown and how his life was that of a meaningless Black man so this is less about him at this point than the sadistic ideas that dominate our racial discourse.
I will say — thank Da Lawd for the creation of the videotape. It hasn’t fixed things but it has changed things.
