Gary Younge, the Guardian writer, has a brilliant book out. It is called ‘Another Day in the Death of America: A Chronicle of Ten Short Lives.’ It is all about violence in the United States. Early on in the book, Younge references another book, Douglass Kellner’s ‘Guys and Guns Amok: Domestic Terrorism and School Shootings from the Oklahoma City Bombing to the Virginia Tech Massacre.’ Both Younge and Kellner write of “The Amok Man,” someone described as “patently out of his mind,’ a person “oblivious to appeals and threats.” They are driven by their lives of failure, and their violent “rampage” is “deliverance from an unbearable situation.”

The Amok Man is a “sociopath,” a man who takes no responsibility for anything and has never had a conscience according to Kellner. The person will say and/or do anything. There are lots of people who came to mind when I read this segment. Ted Bundy. Jeffrey Dahmer. That dude with the hockey mask with like 20 movies. Yet, one person is strongly suggested more than others. He is employed by the U.S. government. Earns $400K annually. He golfs a lot; he was born into money and privilege. His Poppa was KKK. No this is no bad dream. Act accordingly. Hit it David Byrne
