Down With The King
“But where, say some, is the King of America? I’ll tell you, friend, he reigns above, and doth not make havoc of mankind like the Royal Brute of Great Britain. Yet that we may not appear to be defective even in earthly honours, let a day be solemnly set apart for proclaiming the Charter; let it be brought forth placed on the Divine Law, the Word of God; let a crown be placed thereon, by which the world may know, that so far as we approve of monarchy, that in America the law is king. For as in absolute governments the King is law, so in free countries the law ought to be king; and there ought to be no other. But lest any ill use should afterwards arise, let the Crown at the conclusion of the ceremony be demolished, and scattered among the people whose right it is.” — Thomas Paine
I think most of the founders and the men who shaped the United States had serious problems. Yet, time and time again, in theory, and in how they spoke of the country they wanted, and wrote it down, they got it right. Thomas Paine got it right here. And this fundamentally what is wrong right now. You have a guy who has spent his entire professional life getting around laws and breaking laws. He is President now and he continues to break laws. The party, he took over, has decided that is OK and it is also OK that he is a sort of quasi-dictator. So, though I know the impeachment is going nowhere (he won’t be removed); it must happen. Mostly because of what Thomas Paine wrote in January 1776 which I have posted above. There is no King. Law is King in the U.S. It is that law which has enabled black people and women and so many others to assert their rights and make them real, and more each the more they are fought for. So impeach and if this President breaks the law again, impeach again. And impeach any future President, regardless of party or popularity, who breaks the law. Yes, the President is expected to obey the law. The President must obey the law, or face removal. So let the removal process proceed quickly.
And Jay, kick that beat.
