For The Black QuarterBlack (I mean Back), It Is Still Third and A Mile
The benching of Eli Manning (with his approval) and the elevation of Geno Smith (a QuarterBlack) by the New York Football Giants is a milestone. Every NFL team now will have started an African-American at QB once it happens. The first was 49 years ago; his name was Marlin Briscoe, of the Denver Broncos. Smith will finish the cycle.
Yet, the struggle continues. Just this past week, a New York Daily News article demonstrated still today how black QBs are treated vastly differently collectively and individually in today’s NFL. The study is rich in actual data which is most important. One day, perhaps it will change. Until then, good luck, Geno. All the best, Eli. And we continue to call for the BAMMA from Queens, to go back to Queens forever.
