George Santos, Trickster
The young politician presents another stress test for the system
I do not live in George Santos’ N.Y. congressional district. His vote might affect my life in some small way. But, I doubt it.
He made up his whole life it seems when he just won election to the U.S. Congress. He made up a career. He made up his life.
Is his name George Santos or is it Keyser Soze? Or Hiram Roth?
Here’s my quick raw take —
If you lie on a job application, you don’t get the job if they find out. Or, maybe they keep you anyway because you are doing a great job. But, usually, if you lie on a job application, and the company or the government finds out, you are no longer eligible for the job. You are fired.
On the other hand, Mr. Santos was hired by the people of that district where he was voted into office. Aren’t they the parties to decide if he should be fired?
The answer to that is, there is no mechanism for firing him now that the voters are aware he lied. The other answer is a question: would they have hired him but for the inability to find out if he was a liar?
Mr. Santos now admits he made it all up. His education, experience, and perhaps even his sexuality…
