Great essay, A. An early hip hop DJ I know in D.C. says by 1992 he saw where it was headed and what the artists and producers, etc. were going to do so he got out; he gave it up. He knew they were going to take the money, so to speak and forget the original impetus for the creation of the B-boy culture. Capitalism (neoliberalism) is versatile enough to pretty much swallow anything and vomit it back up as what it wants. I suspect we have to get more sophisticated and think things through better.
