Great thing is my grandmother lived until she was 98. They all knew her. They knew part of this. My mother is slowing down but is 94. They have now grown up and they knew both of them. They have a sense of self in that regard. To them, it is less about the Black part and more about they are from America and their grandparents are Americans. They get the culture side of it. The food, the rituals. The traditions. They know why I make sweet potato pie no matter what, it had to be made. They never had potato salad though. I am not a big fan of it.
