Herschel Walker Lives in…Texas?
Letters to my friends in Texas & Georgia
“You say you’re not from texas
Man as if I couldn’t tell
You think you pull your boots on right
And wear your hat so well” (Lyle Lovett)
Dear Friends in Georgia:
Did you know Herschel Walker does not even live in Georgia? Wow. I mean, it is one thing to be unqualified for a job. But it is another thing to be ineligible. Herschel does not live in Georgia. He lives in Texas. He is probably in Texas right now having some beef brisket.
And here is the eligibility clause for U.S. Senate:
“No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.”
That last line — “be an inhabitant of that state for which he shall be chosen” pretty much gets Walker thrown off the ballot. He is not an “inhabitant” of Georgia.
Why?
For one, Walker admitted on the campaign trail multiple times his home is in Texas. He told a Georgia crowd earlier this year that he lives in Texas.
