I am reading a book about this now. The states, in the South mostly, feared that the white workers, if they knew the real history would reject it and join Blacks for more fair labor laws. DuBois warned everyone about this. He was a Communist but his class analysis is accurate. America has a class war going on always and it is partly rooted in race. But it is not always race. At its core, it is just an economic battle. Funny that Blacks have more rights as "Blacks" than they do as human beings. Our vote is only guaranteed because we are Black if the VRA is enforced. If it isn't, we don't have the right to vote really. No one has a federally protected right to vote. States protect your right to vote but what happens when they don't? It's class warfare. I am not dismissing race; I am just trying to stress race = class in America but the larger picture is this is class war.
