I read this interesting piece. My initial reaction took me to The Black Arts Movement. BAM as it is called changed that paradigm at least amongst those that matter. Amiri Baraka’s essay, “Black is a country” is one the best on this. Many other writings as well and art. So reading this those making these assumptions have accepted the white supremacist construct. I think this is the daily battle but BAM was a game changer. BAM takes the position to not worry with that. Black culture, history, traditions, and futures is defined by African Americans collectively and is a source of strength and true self consciousness as DuBois noted. This counters that ugly tradition.
