I think you should read a little on patriarchy. It is not the invention of feminists. It is the invention of men as a system to oppress women in the post "hunter-gatherer" period. Thing is, there are indigenous cultures still on earth right now, many that never embraced patriarchy. The system never made it into their culture. They still exist and co-exist as equals, men and women. They still share duties and responsibilities for gathering food, raising children, and co-existing in many ways. I am not a feminist and just because I am American does not mean I am reciting a "universal truth." I never said I was. I am reciting facts that can be found in many books. Patriarchy is a fact in human societies. Patriarchy is a system of oppression and that is not a "Western" ideal. That is something men came up with and imposed on women. As I tried to stress, it is not an "either/or" either. Indigenous men and Western men both have embraced patriarchy. Feminists also didn't and weren't the first to identify this system either. It dates back perhaps 1800 years according to some writers on the topic; others think it might not be that old.
