I watched the PBS documentary on the Protestant-Catholic and British conflict recently. It tells me this can be fixed. Israel would have to hit the re-start button though. Start over even though they have a country they have put in the land there. They will need to sacrifice land. There is no other way out. It also cannot be based on anything before led by the West. The West back Israel because they didn't want the Jewish people coming to their country and they wanted a landing strip for their warplanes in the Arab world. The West is dishonorable 1000 percent. Israel and the Palestinian people and the Arab world can fix this. Perhaps, Erdogan of Turkey is right, he can fix this. I don't know. But both sides don't want to keep killing each other and the Palestinians have the most to gain by that. They are living under horrible conditions. If it is true (what many say) and Israel's current leadership is committed to ethnic cleansing, then the situation won't get better. I know for a fact that most American Jews are not committed to ethnic cleansing and many oppose the current regime's policy. In 1987, there was a true commitment to work towards a peace agreement. Then, a right wing Israeli killed Rabin. In 1993, the Oslo accords were reached and again, the forces of extreme ideas worked to sabotage that. Hamas is not good for Palestine either. They are authoritarian and Islamic. Who wants to live in such a society? Not me. The goal has to be secular with protection of faith practices and identity and demilitarized. That is the only way forward. The Jewish people and the Palestinian people are resourceful and can make the local economy work. It is not complex. But Israel has to hit re-start. In Northern Ireland, that is how they fixed it. The oppressor, Britain was forced to change their role over there and let the people decide. Yes, Catholics still don't like Protestants but no one said we have to like one another to live in peace anywhere.
