It is interesting. The US was an ally of Saudi Arabia first. They hooked up with them in 1945. Close ties. This has never waned. They didn't move closer to Israel until the 1960s. The Yom Kippur War seems to be very important. Perhaps, we are keeping our options broad. Maybe we don't trust the Saudis as much. But when Osama was coming for them, we protected them. Osama's goal people forget was to extract the US from the Muslim holy land. He bombed us for that reason specifically. He was offended the Saudis would allow Westerners to set up shot in Saudi Arabia. But the US plays the Saudis very close. Israel to me though is like the waving hand, on a certain level. It is a deal. Everyone gets something except the Palestinians. They get exile. Also, the US likes authoritarian Arab states despite our phony rhetoric. They don't want democracies. They want a strong man we can talk to and work with (but not Qaddafi). The Saudis are about as backwards as you can get. They murdered an American journalist in Turkey and they basically swept it aside with money, and talk. Trump didn't give a shit. Biden??
