It was a tough film to watch. It was very good though. I was familiar with the story through the book. I like McQueen's work. I love the acting. Sometimes, I think these films should focus more on the everyday lives of the Africans, in slavery, a bit more. But, we are just scratching the surface. Those kinds of films from that period will emerge. I readily await cinema that focuses on post-slavery and Reconstruction and perhaps, the exodus out of the South for some. I do recommend watching "Buck and the Preacher" after watching any of these difficult films. Seriously. I will probably write about that on Medium soon. Thanks for this piece.
