  1. Jimmy Carter got elected in 1976. It was happy times. His presidency had the normal up and down moments. I remember them well. As a Black person in America, I felt that he was a good person, a human being who cared about people. Carter is the best President of my lifetime, by far.
  2. Jimmy Carter did pass a comprehensive mental health law at the end of his term. It was an attempt to ultimately address the issue. When Ronald Reagan succeeded Carter in 1980–81, he sabotaged the law. That is why we still see homeless persons in the cities suffering from mental illness.
  3. Carter was a moderate. He made the same mistake Obama would make in 2009 with his stimulus package; he didn’t propose enough money to really get the economy going. The economy got going but then stalled and the supply side lunatics used it to get control of the government and began the destruction of the American state as we know it.
  4. Craft Beer law. Panama Canal give back. SALT II Nuclear Arms Treaty. Camp David Accords. Asian American Heritage Week.
  5. When Iran took over the U.S. Embassy in 1979 by force and took Americans hostage, I thought he should have invaded Iran. Yes, I was a backward young boy at the time who still saw America as righteous on some level. But when Iran set the Black hostages free, I was kind of…
