‘Life is Beautiful’
Slow Down, Take Stock
My favorite line of poetry goes like this:
“life if u were a match i would light u into something beautiful.”
Haki Madhubuti wrote that line. It is a line of hope and struggle. The daily struggle. He was talking about the Black struggle but his words are spiritually and holistically beautiful.
These days we have to say our lives are matches. Matches we can light over and over each day, each moment.
Where is my beauty?
I got some new glasses after my pair of glasses broke. I had enough money to pay for them.
My uncle turned 100 years old and we celebrated him.
I wrote a poem.
My plants are growing well indoors.
My brother, mother, and I had lunch together again.
I got some good sleep the last few days.
My family and I have food, water, and shelter.
I have a job that I like.
I heard a great sermon by the South African Bishop Desmond Tutu.
I heard a sermon last week by the Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglass, a Black gay woman minister.
