Maybe it's racial progress. Cross culturalization. Judge her like Black folks like me would judge "Euro-American" acts when they played funk or rhythm and blues or soul. The Average White Band brought and still brings some authentic African American soul and funk. I heard her song. To me, it stands up. She was trying to make a country record. She did. Ray Charles did the same thing decades ago and he got resisted. But he did not let the industry deter him.
