My uncle, my father's twin, was drafted in 1950. Korea. They learned soon thereafter that his father had Communist leanings. A lot of Black people linked up with Reds back then. Hell, their country was a hypocritical racist nation. Yet, because of this, my uncle got sent to Kansas to work in the mess hall. Said he was a security risk. He worked there for a year in the service then got tossed out. Discharge - other than honorable. Years later, my father helped him get the discharge changed to Honorable, or at least made sure his paperwork reflected such. He lost his copy of his records and the records office in St Louis burned down. His records went with it. My uncle was a great guy. He did use the skills he learned in that mess hall and eventually became a waiter and maitre d and bartender. Worked like 30 years in hospitality work.
