Should Medium Monetize Comments?

Rarely if ever do I write about the writing and activity on Medium. How people make money or how they make their coin here.

I mean, I find the platform cool. I do not know how it will last (I am here until) and it is not like I plan to retire to the Cayman Islands writing on Medium but a recent comment I made got me to thinking — why don’t comments get monetized?

Say what?

I’m serious.

I say this because I see good comments all the time. I see comments that get a lot of traffic. People comment on the comment. Why can’t the Medium family of writers and readers and thinkers get some of that juice?

I posted a comment last week about abortion and it has 100 fans. It has a lot of views. So my views shoot up and I knew it was my comment. I also knew I would earn nothing.

Here it is:

I was responding to an article that was particularly insensitive to the humanity of women (I will not post that article).

Now it can be said, that maybe I could just write my own essay. But I have written extensively on this topic…
