Imagine your mother reading you a story. It is the dark of night, in you bed, and you are drowsy, but you have to hear this one, and then you will relax and doze.

Tell me a Bedtime Story” is from Hancock’s album, “Fat Albert Rotunda.” The reference to the cartoon is no coincidence either. It is inspired by the cartoon show, “Fat Albert.”

Hancock’s original version is my favorite but only by a hair. It just sends me into a relaxing slumbering state of mind.

Music critic, Richard L. Grinell wrote years ago that “Tell Me A Bedtime Story” should become a jazz standard. It has become one now.

I currently have five versions I listen to daily. I just hit shuffle and let them repeat. Check a few links and relax. Someone who loves you is reading to you.
