Thanks for writing this. The Second Amendment is close to irrelevant to the debate. If we did a trial suspension of the Second Amendment and gun violence went down say 30 percent, we should leave the suspension in place, right? Of course. And the main argument always made by proponents of unlimited gun access is, if the government went martial law on us, we need to have access to guns. Well, if the government pulled that, everyone would immediately break the law. They would ignore restrictions on guns. It is more of a culture problem than than it is a legal problem. The culture here is a violent, settle your disputes with guns culture. That's what determines the violence. The easy access to guns just makes it easy to choose a quick means of death for one's enemy or the target of one's ire.
