In 2026, if the 45th President is the 47th President, and he suspends the Constitution and declares martial law, many will say, why didn’t I pay more attention to what was going on? Maybe they will lock up all the members of the January 6 committee for betraying the king.

The January 6th Committee hearings are important, very important. In a civil society, oversight of the government by the people is a critical component. If an opportunity to hear testimony from actual witnesses, and to view evidence of an attack on the state is presented to you, you would be wise to watch.

The ratings for the hearings have been decent but they could be higher. And also, it is a shame some good writers and thinkers have adopted the narrative of the MAGA crew and are pushing that narrative more than they are encouraging people to watch.

They have also sought to diminish the hearings and dismiss them. Here is a really good writer, Branco Marcetic in Jacobin, which surprised the hell out of me:
