Soto still had two years to go before free agency. So, why now? And why not just ask him directly what do you want? Maybe he wanted $40 million per year right now. Well, give it to him. Seven years for $40 million. $280 million.
He will be only 30 years old and he can play somewhere else after that, or he can stay. Nah. The Nationals decided to low ball him (Yes I wrote that — low ball).
