The most surprising thing about this latest episode is the reaction from people against people because they are Jewish. I expect Islamaphobia. I expect anti-Israel statements. I even expect anti-Semitism towards Jewish people who openly support Israel. But the reactions that trouble me most are from people who are very well read, and educated, making nasty statements about any Jewish person, and reaching back for the old tropes that I heard as a kid. That has been the most surprising thing.
