Trump Would Lose By A Landslide In A True Democracy
“Same as it ever was…”
Imagine that song by The Talking Heads called “Once in a Lifetime” playing as you read this. Because it is strongly hoped that no one regardless of what happens to the United States has to live through this mess again.
The ex-President Donald Trump I imagine is searching restlessly for a nasty, hateful narrative to feed to his flock of followers in search of votes to get him back in office. It is astonishing he even has a chance to win.
It is not surprising. Racism sells. Sexism sells. Patriarchy sells. These three ills are so familiar in America that they are normal. The poet, Ambrosia Shepherd once remarked in a prayer of poem she used to read the following:
“Father forgive us, for we know not what we do, and we know not, that we know not…”
And so already, millions of Americans don’t care about the horrible person spewing forth hate at every speech he gives. They latch onto the familiar code words about Black people or people of color not being qualified or a woman not being qualified for the office of President of the United States. It is stupid. Get off of it.
