I was born and raised in Washington D.C. It is a colony. It is called a city but it isn’t. There are people there, culture, social life, and it is an organized place where public service is #1. It is a diverse city full of music, education, literature, history, and a world class atmosphere.

Yet, it is a colony.

It is a place with a colonial history and a tyrannical reality. It has no representation in the U.S. Congress for its over 700,000 Americans, even though they pay federal taxes. How is this possible? How can the capital of the United States have no congressional representation?

This should have been fixed a long time ago but it is now bogged down in politics. The shirt above is not a lie. It is the naked truth.

Remember the famous American slogan: “Taxation Without Representation is Tyranny!!” It is. Except in the nation’s capital. That is not a typo. This place is the seat of government and the people living there have no voice in their government.

In plain language, D.C. does not have full self-government, which is undemocratic. According to Eleanor Holmes Norton, the city’s non-voting congressional delegate, it “has a larger population than two states, pays more…
